The Italian Association of Dentists was founded in Rome in 1984 by the first graduates in Dentistry in Italy. The degree program in Dentistry had been established in 1980, and at that time students felt the need to create a national association, called AISO (Italian Association of Dentistry Students), to address the significant organizational and cultural identity challenges that the new Dentistry students were facing in the early years of the program.

For these primary reasons, and for many others—including the need to establish in Italy a first-class dental identity with superior professional standards ensured by the exclusive practice of this specialized field—the first Dentistry graduates founded the Italian Association of Dentists.
